Services

I am an independent recording, mixing, and sometimes mastering engineer. I strongly believe that there are many ways to make a record and all of them have their place. Here’s what I do:

Pre-Production

I highly recommend we spend some time together before starting a project. Working out things like arrangements, instrumentation, tone, etc. BEFOREHAND is a great way to save time and money in the studio. It’s also helpful to ensure we’re on the same page at the onset. If I’m thinking “Pink Moon” and you’re thinking “Alien Lanes”, well, that might pose a problem down the road.

Studio Recording

As of June 2010, Prodigy Audible in Bowie, MD is my tracking, mixing, and mastering home. It’s a fantastic facility with a huge tracking room, a well-tuned control room and great gear. It’s an indie recording studio with a fun, relaxed vibe. If your project requires something different, no problem. I have great relationships with studios all over DC, Maryland, and Virginia.

I’m always up for a new studio! If you’ve got someplace that you like working… well, let’s do it.

Remote Recording

Want to do the whole thing in your living room? No problem. I am a huge fan of exploring new spaces to record. My remote rig is top-notch and  I’ve seen the best basements D.C. , Baltimore, and Virginia have to offer. Generally the preferred method involves tracking basics (drums, bass, guitars) at the studio and doing things like vocals, percussion, keys, and various overdubs in your practice spot/living room/bathroom. Either way, if you’ve got the room, I’ll bring the studio.

Live Recording

Show documenting services available! We’ll coordinate with the venue to get the best possible recording of your show. Everything is tracked to a rock-solid Radar 24 hard disk recorder (with Pro Tools running as a backup).

Mixing

Attended mix sessions must be booked in advance at Prodigy Audible. Unattended mix sessions are also available (at a reduced rate). Contact me for details.

Mastering

I am not a mastering engineer. That said, I do end up mastering from time to time. Here’s what I  tell clients that have recorded or mixed with me: “If the choice is between me and a dedicated mastering engineer at a dedicated mastering studio, you need to choose the other guy. If the choice is between me and another recording engineer that claims to also do mastering, let me do it. I have trust issues.”

Instruction/Consultation

I am a trained and certified instructor with experience teaching in the following areas:

  • Digital Audio Workstations (particularly Avid Pro Tools LE, HD, and M-Powered)

Audio Electronics Repair

Check out my other venture, The Shop. I work on all types of audio electronics. Repairs, modifications, assembly, it’s all fair game. Also, check out Prodigy Engineering, a fantastic manufacturer of digitally controlled microphone preamps for which I am the lead assembly technician.

Want to do the whole thing in your basement? It might take a little more time to set up, but it’ll work!
